Intra-Crustal Seismicity Triggering in Shillong Massif – An Appraisal on Recent Seismicity

چکیده

Shillong plateau in the North East India resembles a kind of inselberg, confined between great Hilamalayan mountain belts north and Arakan-Yoma towards east. The study area is governed by system complex seismotectonic features responsible for intense seismicity region, significantly devastation aftermath 1897 Assam Earthquake (Ms~8.7). Spatio-temporal distribution triggering inside from 1966 to 2013 suggests distinctly variable depth-ranges zones within crust. depth section counterparts monitoring its periphery infers bottom seismogenic zone lie at ~40km with an average earthquake occurrence 22.31km; besides, also dictates dominant magnitude as ≤4.99Mw, wherein most earthquakes are 3-5 Mw 3.42 MW. reveals seismic activity central western part owing conjecture number active faults. present incorporates both qualitative well quantitative approach while understanding types recent pattern massif.

Crustal geophysics and seismicity in southern California

S U M M A R Y The geographical distribution of the (1981–2005) seismicity in southern California forms a ±150 km broad zone adjacent to the Pacific–North America plate boundary, ranging from depths of ∼1–∼30 km, with the bulk of the focal depths in the range of 2–12 km. The distribution of the seismicity that includes both mainshock–aftershock sequences and background events is affected by both...

INDUCED SEISMICITY. Seismicity triggered by fluid injection-induced aseismic slip.

Anthropogenic fluid injections are known to induce earthquakes. The mechanisms involved are poorly understood, and our ability to assess the seismic hazard associated with geothermal energy or unconventional hydrocarbon production remains limited. We directly measure fault slip and seismicity induced by fluid injection into a natural fault. We observe highly dilatant and slow [~4 micrometers pe...

Precursory Seismicity Patterns

Mature seismic gaps are defined here as gaps in which a possible precursor to a future event has been identified. The seismic potential of these seismic gaps is enhanced relative to immature seismic gaps. The seismic gap hypothesis by itself provides an excellent means of narrowing spatial limits along plate boundaries within which the great earthquakes of the next several decades are expected....
